Medical Librarian Education and Training
• You need a bachelor's degree to get into a Library Science graduate program. After finishing your bachelor’s program, you need to have completed a master's degree in Library Science. Taking science or pre-med programs during the undergraduate course will prove highly helpful for students interested in entering a graduate program.
• Opt for a college that has the American Library Association certification.
• The program includes: the history of books and printing, research methods and strategies intellectual freedom and censorship, and user services.
• Medical librarians frequently have training in health, science or medicine. They may also train in the information sciences to obtain skills required to maintain databases.
Medical Librarian Job Outlook
The Bureau of Labor Statistics says that the job opportunity and prospect for medical librarians is set to rise by 8%, up to the year 2018. On the other hand, the BLS says that hiring of new librarians will be directly related to the amount of money the government sets aside for the libraries. What’s more, the growing use of electronic resources helping users to perform their own research is making librarians redundant.

The salary of a medical librarian largely depends on the education of the librarian, location and type of library where he works. The average annual salary of a medical librarian is about $52,530 according to BLS.
