A Plastic Surgeon is a general surgeon who has gained expertise in the domain of cosmetic surgery or reconstructive surgery. Specific training is essential for a general surgeon to become a qualified Plastic Surgeon; however no specific educational requirements are mandated.
A plastic surgeon performs a wide variety of surgical procedures which include mastectomy, contracture surgery for correction of burns victims, abdominoplasty, breast augmentation surgery, Rhinoplasty, sexual reassignment surgery, etc
The primary job requirement of a plastic surgeon is to replace and repair or reconstruct various parts of the body that are damaged either due to disease or injury. A plastic surgeon has to ensure the aesthetic appearance of the body parts along with restoring the functionality.

Plastic Surgeon Education and Training
• A candidate requires a minimum education of eight years, post secondary education.
• After completing the undergraduate program in a recognized medical school, a plastic surgeon would first have to get basic training in general surgery by completing residency in the surgical unit for three years.
• In addition to this, five year additional residency training is mandated to get a hands-on experience in Plastic Surgery.
• In order to practice as a Plastic Surgeon, the Surgeon has to clear the United States Medical Licensing Examination, have a graduate degree from an accredited medical school.
• Furthermore, a plastic surgeon needs tot be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

A plastic surgeon earns a higher annual remuneration compared to a general surgeon. As per the association of American Colleges of Medicine the salary range is from $300,000 to $791,510 per annum, depending upon the location, specialization, expertise and experience of the Plastic Surgeon.
