Computer Resume
|
Finding a computer related job is a lot easier if you have a great resume to assist you in your job search. You should put an appropriate amount of time and effort into writing a computer resume because potential employers can really tell the difference between a resume that took 5 minutes to put together and one that was well-planned and thought out. To make the best computer resume possible you should include certain relevant information that highlights skills and abilities, and shows potential employers that you are the best candidate for the position.
Professional Work Experience
There are a lot of computer related jobs that could be included on your resume. Including work experience on a resume can show potential employers that a candidate will be capable of handling the work related responsibilities of the position that is being applied for because you have successfully managed to do so in the past. For this section of a computer resume, you can include previous work positions such as Computer Programmer, Software Tester, Computer Analyst, Computer Engineer, Application Developer, and many more positions that require computer based knowledge and skills.
Education
Considering the wide variety of computer related positions that are available to apply for, finding the best way to include educational information can be difficult. Most positions will require individuals to have either undergraduate or advanced degrees in areas such as Computer Science or Computer Engineering. For these positions it is incredibly important to list all degrees as well as making mention of important details such as courses or other academic achievements that qualify you for the position in question. If you have had any other training, or attended computer based seminars in the past, you can include that kind of information in this section.
Technical Skills / Computer-Based Knowledge
Use this section of your resume to create a list of your technical or computer based skills and knowledge. You should distinguish between advanced knowledge and user knowledge of each item you are listing as to not mislead potential employers about your abilities. Items to include in this section are programming languages like Java, JavaScript, C++, Visual Basic and HTML. Also mention operating systems like Macintosh, Windows and Linux, along with any other industry or job specific software applications that you have learned how to use either formally, from previous work positions, or through teaching yourself. Some of the most common software suites might include Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Oracle, WordPress and MATLAB.
The most important thing to keep in mind when writing a resume is to format the information you are including to the specific position being applied for. It can be tempting to include every ounce of information possible, but this can deter the interviewer reviewing your resume from wanting to read through the entire document to find relevant information. Also, you can search for computer resume samples or templates online to give you a good idea of how your resume should look once you have finished editing the content.
