Electrician Resume
|
Unlike an electrical engineer, an electrician isn’t required to have any upper level education in a college or university. They are, however, required by most states to go through certain coursework and apprenticeships prior to licensure. Most often the governing body is the state in which the job applicant intends to work, but there are still some states that leave that jurisdiction up to localized counties and/or municipalities. An electrician resume should make it quite clear that the candidate is seeking work as an electrician and not an electrical engineer.
Electrician Resume – Objective Statement
Most often an electrician is employed in the field of construction or repair. They generally have apprentices or journeymen working under them, and are quite often in charge of large construction projects. The objective statement on an electrician resume would define what kind of role the applicant is looking for while expressing future goals. An applicant might state, “Licensed electrician looking to supervise crew for new home construction.”
Electrician Resume – Qualifications
While many electricians can, and do, anything from hands-on grunge work to supervision, qualifications might make it clear what types of jobs a candidate is best suited for. As an example, an applicant who lists ‘project oriented,’ or ‘time management’ as buzz words in his or her qualifications would be telling that employer that the candidate has probably been a team leader in the past. It would not even be necessary to even glance at the professional experience portion of the resume to discern this information.
Professional Experience of an Electrician
Jobs will be listed beginning with the most recent or current job and then working backwards in reverse chronological order. This information would include the company worked for, the dates of employment and the location of the base or home office. After each job a list of responsibilities and duties are provided. An electrician might list that he or she oversaw a development in downtown Manhattan of a 50 story high rise apartment construction, with duties such as keeping track of time cards, training apprentices and journeymen, meeting with property owners, talking to city engineers, and any number of other tasks within the job description.
Education on an Electrician Resume
Education and training would begin with the highest level of certification, and then listed backwards in much the same way as the professional experience was documented. An electrician is not required, in most states, to have any higher education than a high school diploma. However, coursework, on the job (OTJ) training and time served as an apprentice and journeyman should all be included as education. Dates and certificates should be listed, as should state regulated exams that were successfully passed. Again, licensure varies from state to state, so any courses required by the state would be listed as education.
