Engineers play such an important role in everyday life that there is always a call for them in all fields, from development to maintenance of virtually everything on earth. While there are many qualifications and skills inherent in engineering skills, some are quite specific per discipline. Examples of skills listed on a mechanical engineering resume might be “Current on regulatory compliance, Proficient in Engineering Change Order (ECO) and Engineering Documentation.” Also, personal skills such as excelling in time management and being goal oriented could be mentioned. Qualifications and skills can be either job related or testaments to a candidate´s personal work ethics.

Professional Experience for an Engineering Resume

Most engineering resumes are formatted chronologically. This would mean that any related professional experience would be listed with the most recent job first by the name and location of the company, position held and dates of employment. Immediately following each job would be a list of duties and responsibilities that the candidate was held accountable for at each place of employment. Specific duties for an electrical engineer might read “Modification of integrated machines, conducted daily inspection reports to minimize machinery downtime, created process flow charts for motors and control units.” These are in list format, and can be in bulleted format according to personal preference.

Educational Requirements for an Engineering Resume

As society goes high tech, it is becoming more commonplace to see corporations requiring engineers to have a Master’s Degree in their field of engineering. Perhaps as recently as a decade ago, engineers had no trouble finding decent employment with a Bachelor’s of Science degree. That is no longer the case, and most often a job in engineering requires a minimum of two to three years of graduate studies with accompanying field/research work. The educational portion of an engineering resume begins with the highest level degree and is worked chronologically backwards from there.
