Entry Level Accounting Resume
|
Most often an entry level accounting resume would be submitted by a job candidate who is a recent graduate from college, or an accounting clerk wishing to gain employment working under certified accountants. However, there are also times when accountants with experience wish to change places of employment, and would then utilize an entry level accounting resume to get in on the ground level with a new firm or corporation. This type of resume is in chronological format and should only be one page in length, two at the most.
Entry Level Accounting Resume – Objective Statement
The objective statement should make it perfectly clear if the person seeking a job is an accountant or an accounting clerk. For example, an accountant might say, “Experienced accountant seeking entry level position with a firm who specializes in tax law.” On the other hand, an accounting clerk might say, “To obtain a position working under accountants to learn skills while finishing degree in accounting.” The objective statement makes it understood what type of position is being sought.
Entry Level Accounting Resume – Qualification and Skills
Qualifications and skills on an entry level accounting resume may relate to specific skills associated with the trade, or they could be personal characteristics and capabilities that make the job candidate desirable for hire. Some job related skills might be “well versed in corporate tax law, proficient in Excel spreadsheets, proficient in Intuit QuickBooks or Sage Peachtree accounting software.” Personal qualifications might mention, “excellent in time management, work well in fast paced, goal oriented environments, and fluent in speaking three languages.” This list can be in bullet format if desired.
Professional Experience for an Entry Level Accounting Resume
Professional experience is always listed in reverse chronological order beginning with the current or most recent job. The position held, name and location of the employer and dates employed are listed first. Immediately following each job would be examples of primary responsibilities such as accounts payable and receivable, inventory control, internal auditing, and cost control. Each successive job would be formatted in the exact same way. Again, lists can be simple or bulleted based on personal preference.
Educational Requirements for an Entry Level Accounting Resume
For an entry level accountant, the minimum education would be a B.S. in Accounting. The degree may be general or it may have an emphasis on one of the disciplines within accounting such as a certified forensic accounting or a certified public accounting. Many jobs require a Master’s Degree however, so it is incumbent upon the applicant to research requirements prior to submitting a resume. An entry level accounting clerk may only need an Associate’s degree or a two year accounting degree from a vo-tech school. The highest level of post secondary education would be listed first, and just as the professional history is listed, education is documented in reverse chronological order.
An entry level accounting resume is the first step in gaining employment in the field. Because there may be dozens of applicants contending for one or two positions, it is vitally important to submit the best resume possible that is crafted to market your skills, experience, and education. There are entry level accounting resume samples online which provide a great place to start when seeking to understand how to write an effective resume.
