The exciting world of fashion is always evolving as trends gain prominence and then fade away. Today’s trend is tomorrow’s fashion disaster, and to be sure, this is not a static industry. Fashion Resume – Qualifications and Skills

This can be an interesting section when you are seeking a job in the fashion world and should be handled with special care. If the employer was interested enough by the objective statement to continue this far, it’s important that you don’t lose them here. Any skills involving fashion and women’s clothing should be listed here. Use as many buzz words as possible because this is an important part of your resume. Qualifications and skills are your ‘sales pitch,’ so it becomes necessary to market yourself in such a way that the prospective employer will want to bring you in for an interview.

A fashion designer may list strong sense of color and lines, excellent presentation skills and even being able to work well with temperamental models. On the other hand, a model might list such things as being skilled on the runway or for stills. Each position within the fashion industry will have its own sets of skills and qualifications that will make one candidate more desirable than all others.

Professional Experience for a Fashion Resume

On this section of the resume an individual looking for employment in the field of fashion would list any pertinent job history within the past five to ten years. Although some designers and photographers in the field of fashion may have exciting jobs to list beyond that point, it may not be necessary to go farther back than that. Also, with a resume in fashion, most job candidates also include a portfolio of their accomplishments. Since many jobs in this field are considered to be ‘freelance’ jobs, it may be difficult to list every single contract within the past year, let alone the past decade. For that reason, this part of a chronological resume will vary a bit from a normal resume. Professional experience will be listed in reverse chronological order with the most recent jobs first, with the name of the agency or corporation, dates and locations. Education Requirements for a Fashion Resume

Here again, a resume in the fashion industry will have different requirements for each position within the field. For instance, a fashion designer may need to have a Bachelor’s degree in the arts, whereas a model may not even be required to have a high school diploma! Having said that, most models will have attended some sort of modeling school and that should of course be listed in this section. Photographers will probably have a B.A. and perhaps even a Master’s degree.
