|
If you are in the market for a new job, you may have tried all the traditional methods of locating work. But there is one option you may not have thought about, and that is job hunting online. One of the easiest ways to find work online is to use a job search site like Monster or Yahoo! Jobs. These sites match up employers with qualified applicants. To use these sites successfully it is important to know what to expect and what you are expected to do.
Nearly all job search sites operate in the same manner, however it is important to read all the instructions before beginning if you want to successfully complete the information and be in the running for a certain job.
1. Fill in the blanks application form. These forms are similar to a job application. You should fill in all the information requested as completely as possible.
2. Upload or Create resume. Many job sites will allow you to simply upload your resume that you should have saved on your computer. Others may ask you to create a resume using their template; many times you can copy and paste your resume into the template easily. If you don’t have a workable resume already you should probably do this first in order to be submitting the same information to all sites. A resume is not difficult and you can even use a template to put yours together.
3. Review each part of your application and resume correcting any typos or mistakes. Remember just like a hard copy of a resume, your online resume is a potential employer’s first impression of you as an employee. Take your time and make sure that you are making the best impression possible.
4. Select the different options for your job search. Most job search sites will allow you to select the locations, professions, positions and even the hours you are interested in working, so that they can match you up with employers whose criteria you meet who are offering jobs that you are interested in.
5. Check your email regularly. Often with online resumes and job searches you will not receive telephone calls or traditional interviews, most likely all correspondence will be through email. Respond to all inquiries and be sure to include the link to your resume in case they need to look at it again.
These days the competition for jobs is fierce, whether it is specialized career employment or a basic part time job. The unemployment rate is going up while the economy goes down, utilizing every possible avenue for employment is the only way you can be sure that you haven’t missed an opportunity.
More than 50% of employers and job recruiters utilize online application and resume screening, as well as social networking to find potential employees. If you post your resume online you are increasing your chances of finding employment by at least 25% over traditional methods of job searching.
If you have a great resume, make sure that the right people see it and get it online.
