International Students Tuition

Information about International Students Tuition
Tuition is the biggest expense for an international student. Unless funding is available to help with the cost, the responsibility falls to the student, or his or her family, to pay for a college education. International students tuition can amount to a tremendous amount of money.
Tuition Variables
Tuition can be dramatically different from school to school in the US. Some schools offer educational courses for as little as $7,000 per year. Other colleges may have tuition costs that soar upward to $40,000 a year, and at times even more. International students can expect to pay even more for their US education, often triple these amounts. They must also have the funding to pay for this education when they arrive in the US, along with enough money to pay their living expenses, books, and room and board.
Financial Aid
International students should seek financial help to assist with college tuition. There is aid available for tuition, but locating it may take some time. A student is going to have to be determined and persistent while searching for sources of financial aid. Write letters, make phone calls, e-mail and fax inquiries to the colleges that may be of interest. Inquire about scholarships, grants or any other type of international student tuition funding. If the college can’t provide any financial aid, they may know of somewhere or someone who can.
Scholarships
There are numerous scholarships available, but most of them require that a student be a citizen of the US, or at least a resident. It does not hurt to ask, however, if there is a scholarship available at the college the student plans to attend. Always ask for the requirements. There are many databases online that list all of the available scholarships at various colleges and universities. These are services provided by financial experts, who try to find appropriate scholarships for a particular situation. Finding international students tuition funding or aid is going to take some time, but it will be worth it if financial help can be located.
Grants or Loans
Schools may send information to international students about state or federal financial aid. Before applying, it is a good idea to determine whether or not this funding is available to foreign or international students. Generally, federal and state grants or loans do not apply to students studying in the US. More information about these loans and grants can be found online. It never hurts to take the time to do a thorough search, and something may be available. A source of international students tuition funding may crop up where it is least expected.
Other Funding Sources
Funding for tuition may be available in the student’s own country. This is always the best place to start looking. The United Nations may have resources or information about finding international students tuition aid. Be prepared to have to compete for this type of funding. Competition may be fierce because many students have the same idea.
