There are English as a second language (ESL) courses that can help students to become more familiar with speaking, reading, and writing in the English language. English is not necessarily the easiest language to master but the hard work that individuals put into learning the language will more than pay off in the long run.

Leaving your home country and coming to the United States can create a situation known as “culture shock” that some undergraduate international students find difficult to overcome. Before deciding to study in the U.S., students should familiarize themselves with how the culture in America differs from the culture that they are familiar with. It can be a good idea to talk to other individuals who are from your home country and have studied in the United States to get their views on the differences and how to best adapt to them.
Diversity in Culture
One comforting thing that people studying in the U.S. from other countries should note is that they are not alone. The United States is made up of so many different and diverse cultures that it can be easier to adjust to living in America than in another country with a very set cultural make-up, such as Japan. A lot of universities have so many international students that it can be easy to find someone who is from your home country or at the very least, someone who speaks your native language.
A lot of undergraduate programs pair up older students with younger students who have just moved to the United States. These kinds of programs have the older individuals mentor and answer any questions that the younger students have; this can really help undergraduate international students adjust to their new life in America.
