Creative Director Job Description
|
Creative directors are responsible for the image conveyed of a company to the public. After understanding what image a company’s top management wants to portray, his/her role is to incorporate this into all the company’s material that comes into contact with the public, such as advertisements, brochures, web sites and press releases.
Creative Director Job Duties:
If you are talented in the areas of art, graphics and writing, are able to create different imagery to suit the needs of different clients, you may enjoy the job of a creative director. This position is most commonly found in the industries of advertising, film, multimedia and entertainment, where services are provided to other organisations, but can also be found within other companies such as video game manufacturers and fashion houses.
Job duties are:
1) Discussing and understanding what clients want to convey about their company.
2) Preparing broad presentation guidelines and explaining these to departments such as copy writing, art and production.
3) Coordinating the efforts of the various departments and evaluating the appropriateness of material created by them.
4) Making final presentations of the prepared material to the clients.
5) Working with vendors and sub contractors such as photographers, printers and web designers to ensure that material is created as desired.
6) Assisting with market / audience research for the client.
Creative Director Knowledge and Skills:
1) Excellent listening skills to properly understand the clients’ needs.
2) Good communication skills to accurately explain the project outline to team members.
3) Leadership skills to provide guidance to the rest of the creative team.
4) An understanding of various forms of presentation, including art work, web designing, graphic designing, film, photography and written content.
Creative Director Educational Qualifications and Experience:
1) A Bachelor’s degree in fine arts, graphic design or language arts, though experience and a proven track record is usually the most important qualification in this field
2) Experience of over 5-8 years in a related field such as advertising is usually essential.
3) Ability to work with graphic designing software such as Adobe Illustrator, PrimoPDF, InDesign, CorelDraw and PDFill is highly recommended.
4) Experience with web designing, including working knowledge of Java, XHTML and PHP.
Creative Director Salary and Benefits:
1) The average salary for a creative director is between $70,000 and $12,5000 but is much higher at large advertising firms, fashion houses and for other high profile jobs.
