Driving jobs are perfect for those who love the feeling of being out on the open road. Some individuals are just not suited to being indoors or behind a desk all day. If you are looking for work that allows you to be outdoors and have the skills, you may want to learn more about the driving jobs available today. There are various industries that require drivers; one of these industries may be just what you are looking for.
Below are a few details about various driving jobs and what these positions entail:
Truck driving – In order to secure a position driving an eighteen wheeler, you will need a CDL or commercial drivers license. While this is the dream job of many, it is a lot of work. Many truck drivers get only sporadic sleep here and there, because they must meet scheduled delivery or pick-up appointments. You may be required to help unload, but usually this is not necessary. Pay often depends on whether you drive a company truck, or have one of your own. Fuel prices also dictate how much money you will make, as high fuel costs lower profit margins.
Delivery driver – Those who work for delivery companies such as United Parcel Service and FedEx usually make very good money. For these positions, most states do not require a CDL, but you should be in good physical health and able to lift heavy boxes. It's also desirable that you have a good sense of direction and are familiar with the area, so that you can make timely deliveries.
Courier – As a courier, you usually only have to have a regular drivers license. You may deliver newspapers to businesses and houses, or you may be responsible for carrying business documents from various companies such as a lawyers office to the courthouse, etc. You may also drive a van in which you deliver flowers, pizza, and other goods. These types of jobs usually offer less pay than the ones mentioned above.
While some driving jobs allow you to be on the road continuously, others allow you to be outdoors part-time, while the remainder of your day is spent indoors. Couriers who deliver pizza, flowers and the like generally work at the business location until they are needed to make a delivery. However, this still helps break up the monotony of the day, and allows you to get outdoors frequently throughout the day. If you prefer not to be stuck inside and feel that you meet requirements for specific positions, driving jobs can be very enjoyable.
