CIA jobs are a bit more difficult to find than other jobs. In fact, for the limited jobs that become available in a month's time, there will be thousands who apply for them. Competition is stiff, and even if the CIA takes an interest in your resume, it may be quite some time before you have further communications with them. What are the best things you can do to obtain CIA jobs? This article offers information to help make your efforts pay off.
Most importantly, you must be a U.S. Citizen in order to apply for a position with the CIA. If you are not a citizen, you will have to work toward acquiring citizenship. Be prepared to go through rigorous background checks for any past questionable behavior, criminal activities, credit history, drug or substance abuse, etc.
Before you begin applying for CIA jobs, be certain that you meet eligibility requirements. The application process is lengthy, and if you do have things in your background that will likely raise questions it may not be worth the time and effort to begin the application process. Also, most of the positions you will find available require at least a bachelor's degree and a 3.0 or higher grade point average. If you are fluent in several foreign languages, the possibility of you getting a job is enhanced greatly.
There are many sections and subsections with the Central Intelligence Agency in which you may find CIA jobs. Some of these include Security Administrator, Police Officer, Technical Security Officer, Medical Services and Technology and Weapons just to name a few. If you do submit an application, you may be able to apply for as many as 4 openings without having to submit a separate application for each position. Before you complete the application, it may be wise to run a background check on yourself in order to determine what the CIA will see when they perform the check themselves.
How do you find out which CIA jobs are available? Visit their website and simply click “view all jobs.” Once this is done, all open positions will be displayed. You can click on any option that interests you to learn more and determine if you meet the qualifications for that position. You can also submit your resume online. When you do, you will likely be asked several questions about your social security numbers, personal data and citizenship.
After you have submitted your resume, be patient. It may take as long as 45 days to receive a response from them, and if you do not hear from them you have likely not been hired. However, your resume will remain active for one year before you need to repeat the process.
