Teaching Resume Writing Tips
|
Now that you are ready to start composing your Teaching resume we have provided ten top tips for putting this document together. Use this list as a reference as you write your resume.
10: Be sure to include all contact details at the top of your resume including your phone number, E mail and postal address. It is amazing how easy it is to get caught up in the detail of your resume and forget all about the little things like this.
9: Make sure your objective statement is to the point and punchy. You might have a number of goals when you enter into your teaching job but there simply isn’t enough space for you to mention all of them in your objective. Try to galvanise what you want out of the job and create one simple sentence to outline your job ideal, and always remember to make sure it is relevant to the post.
8: Make sure you understand the school you are hoping to join. Try to guage an idea about their principles and beliefs. Many schools have a code of conduct and you can use the information in this to understand what sort of person they might be looking for. You also need to research the school before you write your objective.
7: Be sure that you have a good grasp of the position you are applying for. Don’t get carried away with your idea of what the school is looking for. Read and re read the job advert and make sure you are indicating that you can fulfil this role, not another one that you yourself have created.
6: Don’t think that there is only one section where you can talk about your achievements. You may pack most of this information into your education section but you can always mention achievements when discussing outside interests and your work experience. All you are doing is reminding your prospective employer that you are a high achiever, and something like this is never going to count against you.
5: Don’t write too much about your education. You should focus on your highest achievement, and briefly mention other grades you have received. Your employer will want to hear about the details relevant to the position they are advertising.
4: If you have already embarked on an educational career, try to make sure that your Teaching Resume shows some sort of career progression. Highlight any promotions or pay rises.
3: Try to make your Resume enjoyable to read! Remember, whoever is reading this has many others to read and if your resume can be enjoyable then it will be remembered.
2: Show that you can teach! As you are putting together a Teaching resume you need to teach the reader about yourself! Throughout the resume you need to try and adopt a confident manner in order to show your ability to command a person’s attention.
1: Edit your resume! This sounds obvious but many people do not. As a teacher you of course have to have an excellent eye for detail so don’t let yourself down with errors all over your resume.
Good luck with your application and try to follow the steps above to give yourself the best opportunity possible of achieving success in your hunt for employment.
