Ways To Create A Beautiful Resume
|
Resume writing is a hotly debated topic as many people think that they know the right way to create a perfect resume and that all the others are outdated or archaic. There are many ways that a resume can be created and it is up to you to decide which one shows you in the best light. There are some basic formatting and content needs that every resume should have no matter which method you use for writing your resume. If your resume lacks these, then the whole effort is worthless to any recruiter.
• Work History – The work history doe not only need to include what you did at your prior positions, but needs to have more depth to it too. One way to add depth to your work history is to include any accomplishments that you achieved while at that position. If you were promoted from a lower position, then you need to include that in the work history. If there was a competition within the workplace and you were awarded the prize, then that needs to be included. Tell your new potential employer that you were awarded the employee of the month and for how many months you did so. This shows that you work within a company and have the ability to grow and do your best.
• Stay Positive– Do not use a passive voice when writing a resume. Never use negativities in a resume either. You want to show yourself in the best possible light and if you are negative in writing your resume or if your voice is not active, you come across as a weak person. You should show your strengths, not your weaknesses. The interviewer always asks what your think your weaknesses are so there is no need to write them on your resume.
• Alignment – Never have a resume that has many different indentations and that goes all over the place. Keep the alignment set straight and use the tab key as opposed to the space key when indenting. This allows for a straighter alignment that does not go out of whack when the resume is sent electronically. When possible, use bullet points as they automatically set up the alignment for you. Numbered lists can do the same, but are not as appropriate for a resume as the bullet points are. Above all else, email your resume to yourself and download and look at it. If you can see everything in perfect order without any alignment issues, then it is good to go.
The best thing to remember when creating a resume is that is needs to look good as well as have good content in it. Potential employers are going to want to see all of the positive aspects that you bring to the company, not the negative ones. Highlight your accomplishments and do not be shy about any awards you received while at your past positions. All of these tips make for a great resume that no recruiter can put aside.
